You should also check out Craigslist under general & arts & crafts. You can
find used sewing machines for prices $20.00 to $100.00. Thrift shops will
have sewing machines but not all will let you try them to see if they
work. Very cheap there. Here are a few sewing machines to look for under
$300.00:
Singer
White
Brothers
these machines are great for basic sewing & sometimes there are a few
embroidery stitches included in the machine. I notice that Wal-mart had a
Brother machine that did embroidery & quilting stitches for $199.00.
Then I would buy a cutting mat, rotary cutter, & a quilter is ruler. If
you go to a local fabric shop like Joann is they will help you with the
items. Aslo any local quilt shop has everything you need. Then for
quilting you could go to quilterscache.com, blockcentral.com or
freequilt.com for a simple block. You can also buy a quilt magazine where
you will find nice simple quilts to make. I also suggest that you look at
the following books:
''Quilt with Confidence'' Nancy Zieman
''Fat quarter small quilts'' Darlene Zimmerman
''Rolling Along easy quilts from 2 1/2 strips'' Nancy J. Matin
''Quilt Pink for hope'' Better Homes & Garden(this book is well worth the
money. You can copy the block off of the page,
These books have great pic, directions are easy to understand & lots of
projects to do. Aslo you can always mix these blocks for great quilts to
come.
